    Default What's the best AK?

    I'm in the market for an AK in the near future.
    I want a 7.62x39, Hi-capacity, threaded barrel, preferably with a milled receiver, and I'd like to spend no more than $700.
    I'm an AR guy, and I have no problem admitting that I don't know crap from Crisco when it comes to AKs. All I know is what other people have told me, and almost all of these people don't own AKs either. I've never gotten bad advice here on the forum, so I figured this is a logical place to start.
    Here's what I've heard
    (and remember this is just what I've heard):
    Chinese and Romanians are crap;
    U.S. made Arsenal Inc. are the absolute best, but cost twice as much as I'm looking to spend;
    Russians are second best;
    Bulgarians are a close third, due to the fact that most of them are milled;
    Hungarians are decent quality, and some of them are milled;
    No one has ever mentioned Isrealis... I know the Galil is a refinement of the AK-47... Does anyone make or import a civilian Galil?
    Any opinions on what is quality and good value for dollar would be greatly appreciated, (and also how to identify what I'm buying).
    I'd also like some opinions on where to go to buy one. I live in Pittsburgh, so I'd rather not drive all the way to Harrisburgh, for example, if there's a shop nearer to me that can get me what I want.
    Who stocks them? or is willing to order one (i know sometimes you get the run around because shops want to try to move what's sitting on the shelf rather than order something)?
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    And thanks a bunch in advance to everyone.

    Purchase a yugo and you will be happy.

    ...or buy a WASR (Romanian) and spend the leftover cash on ammo. It goes bang every time.

    Thanks guys. After doing a quick search that seems to be the general consensus. Yugo if possible, WASR as a second choice. (WASRs are Romanian, right?).
    Any Ideas on where around pittsburgh to buy one without getting bent over on the price?

    Would any of those be useful against a mountain lion?

    yea well you heard wrong.
    the romanians are some of the only easily available completely foreign made akm's....in ak form striaght out of the box. of course if you opt for a doubel stack some of the foreign parts get replaced.....but they fit right back on.....i've heard.
    yugos are not the end all beat all ak. the only thing they have going, is they tend to be finished better then the romanians.
    it's only metal, we can out think it....

    Here is a good site to look at the many, many, many. many, many different variants: http://www.ak47reviews.com/AK47_Revi...ws_AKfirLST=70
