Default Need a Civil War long guns expert

    Hi,

I'm looking for a reputable expert on long guns of the Civil War.

I have in my possession a Maynard long gun made in 1859 that appears to have been modified (I've done a little research, and apparently this gun began life as a breech action carbine, but was later modded into a 20 gauge shotgun).

I'd love to find an appraisal expert for it somewhere within a reasonable distance from King of Prussia, PA.

    Anyone have any suggestions?
I carry a gun not to take lives, but to keep mine from being taken.

Bob Hoyt, Fairfield, PA. He has the Freischutz Shop there.

Fairfield is quite a hike from King of Prussia.

    Anyone closer?

Check with the National Park Service at Valley Forge or Gettysburg. They probably have contact information for experts on historical firearms.

The civil war museums in Harrisburg or Philadelphia are great resources.

Maynard actually made three shotguns. Sounds like yours might be the First Model - look like this?
