Looking for a good multipurpose .223
A little background on myself. Currently own a Mauser .30-06, Winchester Model 70 .308 and am looking for a nice gun to take to the range/field and shoot all day without breaking the bank. Buddies of mine shoot .223 a lot and it would be nice to buy ammo in bulk between us, hence the want for this caliber.
-Looking for something that I can take to the range and drive tacks with, but must be versatile enough to take into the field.
-Budget of 600 +/- without optics
-Must be .223 caliber
-Must have wood stock
I've only really begun my search to find something that will fit my criteria, so far I've looked at a Weatherby Sporter. Nice gun, not completely sold on it though.
If I'm forgetting any information please let me know and I'll get a response up!
Thanks!

Re: Looking for a good multipurpose .223
You are in luck, Savage makes a number of rifles that will fit you requirements. They are typically more accurate than anything in their price range, and with the new accu trigger are even better. Why not look at their web site and see what they sell then look for a dealer. Your price range is such that you needn't look at the Marlin or Stevens, both of which are reputed to be suprisingly good guns for a very low price.
I think a .223 is a great choice. An accurate rifle in this caliber with decent optics should put you on groundhogs at 200+ yds and you will learn a lot hitting those hairy targets.

Savage model 10, 11, or 25.
You can never have enough horsepower or ammunition.

Re: Looking for a good multipurpose .223
I've narrowed my search down to a few guns...
Tikka T3 Varmint
Howa M-1500
Savage Model 10 or 11
Remmy Model 700
TOO MANY CHOICES! I'm really leaning toward the Tikka I hear good things everywhere about the T3...

Ruger Mini 14.
That's the next gun I wanna get.
I've seen them with wood stocks and scopes. Simply beautiful.Read what I say as if I were speaking in a matter of fact, unassuming tone.
