Default FYI ATI announces "new" GSG522's

    Read all about 'em.

    http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=41&t=302150

    Questions:

Do you get an old GSG5 or new GSG522, or hold out for the one with the licensed HK trades?

And what do you tell SIG about that "522" thing?

Ha! So they made it BETTER than the HK "copy" and that gets them "off the hook"?

At least that's the way I'm reading it... funny. (and good news)

If you want a collectible get a current GSG 5. If you want perhaps even better performance get a new GSG 522. I have gen 1 & 2 GSG 5s and they are both great guns but knowing GSG I would imagine the new models have even more refining tweaks.

There won't be any available because I am going to buy them all, betting that they will fit just fine.

I dunno.... HK trades have to count for something.

If - a big if - the new HK SD5 looks good and is nicer than the (from Umarex's airsoft heritage; is at least as nice as say an ICS MP5SD) old GSG SD5, I'd be tempted.

Regardless, I'm happy for MP5 fans - now they have 2 .22LR MP5s to choose from.

While the rest of us will continue to wait for a .22LR MP44/STG44, G36, FAMAS, L85/SA80, AUG, FAL, FNC, Galil.

I'm thinking with enough pressure, the firearms community could convince ATI to make one of the above guns.

Sounds like a good forum project to me !!!! Get every member to write a personalized email asking them to make a .22 version of the same model.

Getting that many people to agree would be quite a task, but if several thousand emails suddenly filled their inboxes asking for a FAMAS .22, how long do you think it would take them to get the picture???

    What do you guys think?

Unfortunately, there's probably only 1000 of us accross the entire USA that would buy a FAMAS. IIRC, Samco (?) brought in about 800 for under $1K each in the mid-80's, and that was all that was ever brought in, due to low/no demand for such an unusual rifle.

In fact, we don't even have any decently strong airsoft FAMAS bodies to hack into .22LR, for the same low-demand reasons. At least the few L85 airsoft guns are metal and ABS.
