I have been burglarized before. I did not have guns at the time, but I do have an Alarm and a loud, scary-sounding Dog for when I am not home.
Alarms are really cheap and easy to install. If you want some help setting one up, let me know. For $200 you can have decent coverage of a couple of doors and a motion sensor.

In fact, Lowes sells do it yoursef GE alarms. Set of control center (with one door alarm included) + door alarm + motion sensor + outside siren, that will wake up the whole township will cost a little over $100. Software that recognizes the alarm sound and authomatically sends an email alert to you is free.
