Default adding rail to my 1911

Has anyone here tried any of the aftermarket, clamp-on rails for the 1911???

If so, what is your experience?
    Which brand do you recommend?

(please don't respond with "sell yours and buy an operator." looking to keep my 1911 for personal attachment and don't have the $$$$ for a railed model)

I was looking at those in passing the other day. Novak makes one that seems pretty highly regarded. M1911.org will have much more info on the subject.

I think the novak requires 3 drill/taps and loctite of the "strong as hell" variety.

If you don't want to make a perm change to the gun then surefire MR07 may be the way to go. Not sure which lights you can mount to it though so that may be something to check into.

    Sorry, real 1911's don't have light rails...LOL (Get a Glock! )

You don't want JMB to roll over in his grave, do you?

    Haha...Just had to be said!

With that said, I'd get the one that doesn't leave any damage to the gun if I had to get one...

    Beat me too it.

Could always buy different model with a OEM rail, I wouldn't add one.

I do know somebody makes one that attaches to the guide cover, check on brownells site, they'd probably have it there.

An integral rail is the strongest way to go but if that's not an option the old sure fire light mount gave good service. It is bulky and sticks out pretty far forward of the muzzle.

I've used and installed several of the rail mounts available from Brownells on 1911s, beretta 92s and Browning hi-powers. I have not had any problems with them.

I have one rail left for 1911/ Beretta 92 if your interested in it. Since it's already in stock, turn around time on installing it will be 1 week or less.
