Default Robber confronted with an M1 garand!

So one of my best friends awoke at 4am today to the sound of someone walking around in his apartment. His first instinct was to arm himself. So just as most of us do we reach for our trusty home defense piece. Only his is a M1 garand. Just as he clears the bed with it, the intruder is at the footboard of his bed! Lights come on and the robber sees the m1 and starts hauling ass. My friend calls the cops and they catch the guy about 10 minutes later. This all happend in Warminister Twp. So me knowing my friend quite well had to ask him a question....was the m1 even loaded? The reason I ask is, He and his farther have collected war memorabilia for years and while they have many guns they are not gung ho gun nuts like we are lol. So here was his answer. He tells me nope it was not loaded, he always kept two clip fulls in his nightstand (yes m1's have clips, not magazines lol) and always thought he would have enough time to load if he needed too. After this event he has come to the conclusion it is time to keep your personal defense weapon loaded lol. Had the intruder also been armed this could have been a very bad situation. An empty weapon in a gun fight does not usually work out too well. But you guys from that area should see it in the newspaper today. Just thought i would give ya'll a heads up.

Wow glad your friend is ok.

How did the guy get in his apt? Is he on the first floor and he got in through a window, did the guy have a key, pick the lock, etc.?

Haha.. I thought of the same thing right away!

Glad your friend is alright OP... But I just hope he remembers... even though it worked out alright this time, that gun is only a step more useful than a broomstick (only has a bit more to the scare-factor)... hopefully this turns him into a more "gung-ho" gun owner since he is now more aware..

i'm glad your buddy is OK but i've got to say a garand is a poor choice for HD. i would be concerned with over penetration if i fired a 30.06 inside an apartment and even if you hit your target i'd be worried the bullet would still have enough energy to pass through the body and continue on into someone's else's apartment. your buddy would be much better off buying a handgun for HD and keeping it LOADED. in a crisis situation loading any gun can get damn near impossible.

Have to agree with this post.

But would have loved to see the robbers face once he was staring down the barrel of a garand. By the way did the cops catch him because they followed the brown trail. LOL

You're friend was lucky. It's tough to learn that kind of lesson the hard way, but it could have been much, much harder.

The fact that the home invader was at the foot of the bed does not bode well for your friend had he not awoken. That shit is scary.

Warminster eh? Just up the road a little from here. Tell your friend to head over to Classic Pistol or Tanner's, time to buy or trade for some HD hardware.

Off topic question. Why does anti-gun Clint Eastwood make so many movies involving guns? Next question, why do so many gun owners willingly give him their money?
