what size brush/Bore Snake for 7.62x39?
I want to buy a Bore snake to clean out my SKS, also I'm about to purchase a WASR 10.
Which size would 7.62x39 fall under?

I use a 30 cal brush and swatch. Was recommended by a decent gun shop and it works well.

7.62 = .308 so the .30 caliber bore snake is what you need. It's what I use on 7.62x39/54R firearms along with .308 / 7.62x51 firearms.
It should be the light brown one.
.22 is green and black.
They work great. But I use them as part of the final cleaning process. With a real brush and patch soaked in solvent going down the bore first. And the snake just finishing off the job. For which I have found no better tool. They get the bore so clean... it looks new after every cleaning.
Plus it saves me the hassle of scrubbing the bore relentlessly with a brush and 10 patches to get it clean. I loosen the fouling up with solvent and the brush. Then run another heavily soaked patch down the bore. Allow it to set, then bore snake it. Which saves a lot of wear and tear brought on by cleaning.

Nope...I bought a .30 cal., and it is TOO SMALL for my Saiga 7.62x39 bore.

I use German military cleaning kits with pull through chain. Ctd had them for $2 each. Comes with 7.62 nylon pull through Brush, brass brush, chain, and oiler. Bought 6 of them. Same diameter brush for my tokarev, t53, ak, g3, m44, and 91/30.

The .30cal Bore Snake is listed for use with the 7.62x39.
The 7.62x39 bullets are actually .311"-.312" which is larger than what the .308, 30-06 and etc use. So I could see why the bore snake would have a little more room in a 7.62x39 barrel.

Also interesting enough is:
7.62 multiplied by .03937 (metric conversion) = .29999 which happens to be the bore diameter or the distance (if you could measure) between opposite lands of 7.62X39mm / 7.62X54mm + 7.62X51mm/.308 + 30-06 Springfield etc.
They all have that same ".300" diameter bore and yet use .308 and .311/.312 projectiles.
Personally I have no problem using "30 cal" bore snakes in a rifle chambered for 7.62X39.Last edited by Fragger; June 12th, 2013 at 10:02 AM.
