Not your average gun
Here is somthing a little different. Shes a 1/2 scale confederate mortar I just finished. The originals fired a 12lb exploding shell 1200 yards. This one fires soda cans full of concrete. As soon as I find a place that will let me fire her I'll let you know the range. I'm figuring just over 300 yards

Re: Not your average gun
Very cool. Bet those cans full of concrete would feel like getting hit with an exploding shell.

Re: Not your average gun
saw a full size repro over the summer.
fired an 8 or 10lb solid zinc ball about 200 yards on a pretty small charge of holy black. had a hang time of a good 10-15 seconds....you could watch it go.
the reduced charge was only due to a lack of strong yardage available.
the dude had a half scale field gun as well...that was just blowing blanks....nowhere near enough range to safely put a projectile in it.Last edited by brian; January 8th, 2010 at 06:30 PM.

Re: Not your average gun
Quick design question here if I may.
I see the cannon is adjustable for range via the 'pivot' rod that is strapped down to the block but won't that also allow the cannon to kick back when fired (essentially blowing any hopes of accuracy out the window)

Re: Not your average gun
why not build a T&E out of the screw from a large C clamp?
Cut the threaded end of the clamp off and weld to bracket on barrel, then fasten the end of the threaded rod's swivel pad to the block.. turn screw for elevation..
If God didn't intend us to have guns why would he have given us a trigger finger?
