Default Does anybody use >230grs. in their .45acp?

    Hey guys,
So I know in .40 and 9mm a lighter bullet= higher velocity, which works for those rounds becasue speed is their advantage. So .45acp was designed around 230gr bullets (correct?) and its advantage is size. I also know that in a lower pressure round such as .45acp, you dont lose velocity as dramatically as you would in, say, .40sw. So, in a shorter barrelled pistol such as, say, a Glock 30, do you think a 185gr+p or 200gr+p round is preferable, or is it advisable to stick with good ol 230 no matter what (and shot placement is key, of course )?

Personally I think that's a whole wreck of over-engineering. Learn to place shots and don't worry about the extra 100 fps gain.

Speer makes a really good line of SD ammo designed around short barrel guns. Buy it.

I use 230gr Hydrashoks. My Colt 1991 seems to like them, no problems feeding and they group very nicely.

Similar to a question I had. I recently purchased a Glock 39 ( 45 GAP ) and was told not to go over 185 - never to shoot 230 ? Thought I'd tag onto your thread if you don't mind to cover both 45's

Heres my question, and I'm not trying to be a wise-ass I'm really trying to figure this out: Isn't .40sw in 180gr (with its higher pressure), aside from the obvious small circumference difference, essentially the same round as a 185gr. +P .45?

I caary the 185g's in my 1911. I would imagine that the performance is very similar to that of the .40 but I don't for sure as I don't own a .40 claiber pistol. But like you said, its all about shot placement. We're talking about a difference in diameter of .05 inches, so if it works for your 40cal, I would say its good enough for a .45cal.

Absolutely not. Even if kinetically and ballistic-ly the same, the .40S&W is only for "short & weak" people (girls and male cheerleaders). Don't you know anything?

Now me and my carry XD40 will go sit in the corner and cry - like last night and the nights before. I hate me.
