    Default LTCF revisions for uniformity

It is my understanding that, on the state level, changes are being considered to make the process of applying for and getting an LCTF uniform.

While this is still in the works may I ask that you all write to your reps and propose that long time LTCF holders no longer be required to provide references. References are probably reasonable for the first time one applies but if one has lived in the same county for deecades and has had numerous renewals they seem to be just redundant.

If enough of us make our preferences known I am sure that we can cause small changes here and there that would be to the benefit of us all.

It is my understanding that "at the state level" the process IS uniform. Its at the County Sheriff level that things are getting screwed up.

What changes can the State make on their level to fix the sheriffs?

Can you provide a source for this info?

    That's unfortunately very true.

Although the UFA sure could use some improvements and upgrading as well

I don't mind the references clause, what I do mind is egotistical sheriffs requiring that they live in the same county which is not a provision in the UFA.

I hate when they try to "fix" anything. No matter how bad or how much it needs to be fixed they seem to only make it worse.

once again, if the law was followed the way it is written there is no need to
    "fix" the law.

now if by "fixing" the law it makes sheriff departments accountable for not following the law the way it is written, then i'd be ok with it. but i doubt that will ever happen.

I believe that many sheriffs have proven that they can't be trusted with this process and that the commonwealth should take the process completely out of their hands. this may present a different set of problems, but at least we would have a single entity to address our complaints to instead of a patchwork of county level problems!

In olden days, you needed to get a letter from your local chief. Basically he said that you weren't known to be nut or troublemaker. That makes more sense than "references." Who the heck would knowingly name someone who would give a bad reference?

In Columbia County, *YOU* have to make your references call *THEM*! Trust me, I had to do it just last week.
