Carrying rifle while hiking in parks?
Hi,
I'm planning a camping trip in the Poconos with family and friends, and I was wondering what the laws were for open carrying a rifle/handgun for self defense were in parks? I do not have a hunting license and do not plan to hunt on this trip.
What are the restrictions? I.e no semi, chamber empty, maximum rounds in magazine?
Thank you very much in advance!!

Go with a handgun and have a License to Carry Firearms and you will be fine. Do not carry a loaded rifle.

Re: Carrying rifle while hiking in parks?
where exactly are you camping? the CC rule is only for state parks; in February, CC and OC will be permitted. if you're going to be in a national forest or state gameland, there's no law i've read saying you can't have carry a rifle. i know that it's legal to carry a long gun down a city street, though i wouldn't do it. the only long gun restriction i know if has to do with them being unloaded for transport.

Under the PA Game Commission regulations if you are in the open woods or fields with a loaded rifle or shotgun then by definition you are hunting.
Therefore you must have a hunting license and the correct weapon and ammo for that hunting season. Exception would be if you were target shooting using a proper backstop.
It's not a firearms regulations it's a hunting regulation.
