Only a small percentage of LEO's are gun people who actually give a rats___ about the law. I dont even see any of the friendly 2nd Amendment LEO's who post here charging their buddies with violating the PA Opression Statute when they do. LEO's feign "ignorance of the law" but if YOU used that excuse they'd laugh at you!
Sadly, you dont realise that you're the problem in condoning and dismissing systematic violations of civil rights! You and the general populace comply with his/her fishing expedition and they think it's OK to ask these types of questions and violate the law, erode our civil liberties and harrass people for NOT complying with something they have NO LEGAL RIGHT TO ASK! :-(
Can you cite the statute we are violating when we ask you questions?

Where does it say I have no legal right to ask you something like where are you coming from or do you have any weapons in the vehicle? Not saying I do ask those questions or agree with it, just curious

Where do you work ? Isnt a relevent question when you receive a parking ticket, etc.

Kinda like the question about whether or not there are any weapons in the vehicle that has nothing to do with a traffic stop and we have debated endlessly here.
Ahhhh.. gotcha I do agree with what you are saying here.

After reading just about all responses here, I am still unsure of what I would do in this situation. I have realized that many of us don't trust or feel safe with LEOS. That's too bad. They are sworn to protect and serve not to intimidate and badger. As many have said here, it's up to the individual to decide what to do.

All due respect, but you need a harsh reality check ! How many stories of out of control LEO's do you need to see or hear about before you realize the oath they swear means NOTHING to alot of them ? And before anyone even starts it , this is NOT an " anti cop " rant, it's an anti abusive , opinion enforcing , do whatever they please because they wear a badge cop rant.

Nailer , I sincerely hope for your sake that your blind allegiance and fealty to all LEO's never comes around to bite you in the ass. Do you even know that the Supreme Court has ruled more then once that LEO's have NO legal obligation to protect you and cannot be held responsible if they fail to do so ?

Police are professional fisherman, their job is to seek out and identify crime and present a case and a suspect to the State for Prosecution. Regardless of how " nice " they seem , they are NOT your friends , unless you know them personally outside the job. Numerous Fed level LEO's have spoken out about what they have witnessed, from the inside , about the attitude's many LEO's have towards the people. I have a book, written by a former Fed Agent and now a defense attorney were he admits ( almost bragging ) to seeing and doing things to get a bust that are far outside whats legal.

Do you realize that Police are permitted to mislead, intimidate and lie through their teeth in order to extract an confession ? Knowing all this , WHY in the world would your automatic default view be that " ALL cops are good and only want to serve and protect me and they swore they would so I have nothing to worry about "

Hell I just had to fight a Court case last week because some overzealous opinionated asshole in uniform admitted that he didnt like the manner in which I was exercising my 1st Ammendment rights , and he felt it was " stupid " , so he hasseled me until he could find something to ticket me for , and then had the smug audacity to rub it at the end, blatantly "punishing " me for standing up to him and defending my rights.

Want to hear about how I was threatened in my own back yard , by a couple of locals , that threatened to charge me with charges that simply didnt apply , because they were pissed off that I knew more about the law then they did and challenged their authority ? Is that the kind of reaction thats fair or right ?

Then please accept my apologies, as it came across as yet another in the litany of blind allegiance and acceptance from the " police can do no wrong crowd "

The way I see it, refusing to answer the question at all might increase the likelihood that the cop takes it further, in all cases potentially without technically violating your rights.

I'm not looking for guarantees, just trying to discuss ideas to minimize the chance of a bad outcome. I also don't think that you have to pick one type of response and never vary. For instance, going back to my earlier posts, you could answer "I've got a folding knife in my center console" or "Do I look like someone who carries a weapon?" and hope that he doesn't follow up, but if he does, you could then exercise your right.
"Those who already walk submissively will say there is no need for alarm. But submissiveness is not our heritige. The constitution was designed to keep government off the backs of the people. The bill of [B]rights[B] was added to keep.................The aim was to allow men to be free and independent and to assert their rights........" Laird v. Tatum, 408 U. S. 1, 28-9.
Would it be fail to say sir. you already walk submissively?
