Question A mystery of life (pizza toppings)

I've been seeing a lot of Pizza Hut commercials on TV lately and on the bottom of the screen, with all the disclaimers, etc, it reads "no double toppings", which I have seen many times in the past.

Then I did a google search for "no double toppings on pizza" and read thru about 4 pages. I also saw "no double cheese" at many pizza shops.

So my question, that is a complete mystery to me,...WHY THE HELL NOT?

What is the problem with shops giving double toppings or double cheese on a pizza? I mean, if you order three or four toppings, you are paying for all of them, so why can't they be duplicated???????

What do you think this is? BURGER KING? You can't have it your way!

Ok, joking aside, that is strange, you would think they would allow it.

It's because the bargain pizzas are not sourced locally.

The order is placed online and downloaded to the PizzaPrinter at the local Pizza Hut.

Unfortunately, most Pizza Huts are equipped with the HP Pizza Printer 6200 with software version 6.27 release 2.

When the Pizza Printers are upgraded Nationally (with software version 6.86 release 3.2) all Pizza Huts will be capable of downloading double toppings, then (and only then) all current locality restrictions will be removed.

It's like PennDot on the highway...
A temporay inconvenience, for a permenant improvement.

That may be for some orders, but I don't think it's just for on-line ordering though. Walk-in and telephone call-in also. And not just Pizza Hut.

    I don't get it

Double cheese is not allowed for these reasons.

    1. That much cheese on top of the pie will not allow the dough to properly rise and bake. You end up with uncooked dough in the middle of the pizza.
    2. Cheese is the most expense topping on a pizza. It's not cost effective for the pizzeria to offer it.

When I used to work at a local pizza shop the reason we wouldn't do it was because no matter how much "extra or double" cheese or pepperoni or whatever you put on the pizza, someone always came back complaining that you didn't actually give them "extra or double" toppings. So we just said forget it and stopped offering it.

#2 isn't always correct. If the shop shreds their own cheese they can save a lot of money. We switched to shredding our own when I worked at the shop and saved a lot of money. Same exact cheese we were always using...only now it came in huge blocks and we would cut it up and put it through an attachment on our dough mixer.

Are you sure they don't mean no double toppings just when it comes to the deal they are advertising in the commercial? I have a feeling if your call and order a pizza they'll have no problems adding as many toppings as you'd like and charging for each...
