Carried into the York courthouse, twice...
monday I went in to revew my LTCF and it was the first time I had carried into a courthouse, boy was I nervous. I approached the nearest guard to inform him I needed to check in my firearm and he didn't bat an eye, he pointed to where the lockers were, told me to pick a locker, place my firearm in with my LTCF and take the extra locker tag. No hassle what so ever...
Got a email tuesday morning that my LTCF was ready to be picked and went back in to get it. Today there were different guards on duty and I informed the older guard that I needed to check in my firearm. He escorted me to the lockers and I did what I did the day before. As I went back to the metal detector machine the younger of the guards confronted me with a bunch of questions about if I was law enforcement and such. I told him no, just a law abiding citizen legally carrying a firearm coming to pick up his LTCF renewal.
He started to say how the lockers were supposed to by used by LEOs only which I promptly told him he needs to reread the law. As I walked through the metal detector and past the older gentleman that helped me with the locker, he had a smirk on his face and he rolled his eyes to let me know the other guy was a block head. I replied with a shoulder shrug and a smile.
Overall it was a great experience for me, plus it got that fear off my back of carrying into a courthouse. That is my story and I'm sticking to it....

Re: Carried into the York courthouse, twice...
Well Done! MANY of the York County Deputies are retired or former LEO's and they seem to 'hang on' to old and outdated ideas on many topics.
I was having a conversation with a fellow LEO retiree who lives down the street and he insisted that NO ONE other than LEO's and RETIRED LEO's can carry a firearm in Philly. This is the same guy who doesn't own a computer because they are 'newfangled' things.

Re: Carried into the York courthouse, twice...
I've also had nothing but good experiences when carrying into the York County Courthouse, see here:
http://forum.pafoa.org/concealed-ope...rk-county.html
But others have not had the same experience as you & I (start at post #17):
http://forum.pafoa.org/york-53/77204...ss-page-2.html
& John, I had a similar conversation with my cousin's husband aka ex local township LEO in Harrisburg area... our conversation was around OC & he was insisting that it was illegal & he'd have had me in cuffs so fast my head would have spun had he seen me out OCing when he was a cop & before he knew me...I told him it's a good thing he hadn't ever seen anyone OCing when he was a leo then, because he'd still be paying off the rights violation lawsuit. He responded that a cop can't be sued for "doing their job" & that I was wrong on all points. I directed him to this site for PA statute and case law citations & he brushed off the site as one of those anti government anarchary groups & tried to tell me I should stay away from it. LOL! Ignorance is bliss!Let us never forget the sacrifice of those who have fought for us all.

Re: Carried into the York courthouse, twice...
I have a coworker in the philly area that was a Easton LEO at one time and he says the same thing, he would have had me in cuffs and my face smashed to the ground if he saw me OCing in his town. I asked what kind of car he owned and how big was his house as I would be the new owner of both if he had done so...

Re: Carried into the York courthouse, twice...
They told me it was so the know who's gun it is in case you leave it there (yeah like that would ever happen) or they have to evacuate the building in an emergency & you can't get access to have your gun returned until a later date.
My first time there, it made me nervous that they asked for it. I thought sure they were going to hassle me later over it & just wanted my LTCF there so they could show the sheriff who I was so he could try to hassle me later in the form of an unjustified revocation... but when I retrieved my sidearm every day everything was in the locker exactly as I had placed it... nothing had been disturbed or molested in any way.Let us never forget the sacrifice of those who have fought for us all.

Does anyone know if the Magesterial District Courts in York are in compliance with §913 (d) & (e) (signs/storage)?
