Taurus 1911 - Required upgrades?
I think I'm going to get a Taurus 1911 and I'm wondering what you guys with experience with them consider to be "must have" upgrades? I already know that as soon as I get it, the thumb safety will be replaced with a non-ambi version since the safeties on the Taurus have a reputation for falling apart and I have no need for an ambi safety anyway.
Have any other parts of the Taurus 1911 proven to be problematic?
ETA: The gun will be used to shoot USPSA Limited 10 and single stack divisions, so reliability is a must. I'm going Taurus to save some dough since I'll need a holster and a ton of mags as well.Last edited by BerksCountyDave; December 27th, 2009 at 09:49 PM.

if there are so many must have upgrades to make the pistol what you want, why not spend the money you're going to put into mods and safeties etc and get a pistol that runs well out of the box? Springfield? Used?

i got my pt1911 used from a member and have scince put prolly 2,000 rnds down range and i have had not one problem with mine and its a 1st gen
it is also my trusted carry gun. the safty is fine(i need ambi) and it shoots just as good as every other 1911 i ever shot and better than some. the ONLY thing i would change on my pt1911 would be the strait 8 sights bit a sharpie fixed thatV-DUB Shop!DUBNINJA 82

i have one; the only thing i'd change is the ambi safety. i'd get a standard sized safety for it, but that's me. the latest models don't have the Straight 8 sights, instead the come with standard 3 dot sights.
i thought about changing the hammer, too, but not for any real reason, just to change the look of it.

Dont be in a hurry to replace anything including the ambi-safety, mine has not come apart, nothing has come apart. Its perfect as it is , i just didnt like the cheapy lookinfg plastic grips so i put on a set oh Hoagues, Perfect gun , will shoot out the Bulls eye everytime.
What will you upgrade to? being that Taurus parts are better than a lot of what is out there.?

Hmm.. required ugpgrades? Upgrade to a different 1911! Heh, just joking, but I did have an awful experience with the Taurus PT1911, the matte blued finish rusted, literally overnight. I wish I still had the picture of it, it looked as if it had come out of a 24 hour salt water spray or something, and literally, overnight.

Not to further hijack this thread, but I did find the picture of my former PT1911 - be amazed at the horror:

Who rubbed the park off the slide and didn't lube it?
To my knowledge Taurus has Stainless guns and steel guns.....that are parkerized.
Rub off the coating and you'll rust in a heartbeat!
