Open carry, I'm Cornfused..
I've been reading the open carry and from what I understand if you own a hand gun legally you do not need any permit to open carry, correct?
Then in the lending a gun thread everyone says you can transport an empty gun without a permit.
So I'm confused, do you need a carry permit to carry a gun or not? I know you need one for concealed but I'm not sure on the open.
For example can my wife open carry my pistol? For example say she is going to meet me at the range afterwork and she is bringing the gun, does it need to be unloaded and in a separate container to be legal or can she load it and open carry in the car?

First thing you'll want to do is read the gun rights flyer and/or the training memo.

More detailed explanation than below.
In a nutshell:
(per SS6106)
You do not need a LTCF to openly carry a firearm while on foot.
You DO need a LTCF to open carry (or concealed) in a vehicle or in Phila.
You need a LTCF to carry concealed anywhere except your property or other private property you have permission to do so (IOW, LTCF needed to CC in public)
You need a LTCF to "borrow" a firearm per SS6115
Spouses can also "transfer" ownership without the "application/record of Sale" paperwork.
So whether or not you "need" a LTCF depends on what your intentions are.
For all practical purposes we all "need" a LTCF to carry a firearm openly or concealed since most of us drive a motor vehicleLast edited by Pa. Patriot; August 7th, 2007 at 10:42 AM.

Re: Open carry, I'm Cornfused..
1. While on foot, you do NOT need a LTCF if carrying openly - except in Philly.
2. Your wife may open carry your pistol so long as she is not prohibited from owning a firearm. You and your wife may "transfer" weapons at any given time without any paperwork.
3. Absolutely NO loaded firearms of any sort in a vehicle WITHOUT a LTCF - so it must be unloaded.
§ 6106
(b) Exceptions
(13) Any person who is otherwise eligible to possess a
firearm under this chapter and who is operating a motor
vehicle which is registered in the person's name or the name
of a spouse or parent and which contains a firearm for which
a valid license has been issued pursuant to section 6109 to
the spouse or parent owning the firearm.
Your wife may have one of YOUR loaded firearms in the vehicle, but not her own.
4. LTCF are only $25-40 depending on county, are as easy to get as buying a pistol - absolutely NO reason for you and your wife to NOT get one so you dont have to worry about whether the firearms(handguns, SBS and SBR) are loaded or not.Last edited by knight0334; August 7th, 2007 at 10:42 AM. Re: Open carry, I'm Cornfused..
yeah I guess that are not too bad control wise. The way all laws are written I have a really hard time understanding them. Plus to me open view in a car would not be concealed. I would think just like in my home I should be able to have a gun in the car without needing an extra permit.
I know all that is suppose to help keep you safe but I beleive a lot of our laws are more about control and $$ than actual safety.
