    Default Help Identifying Rifle

I got the following rifle and I'm not quite sure what kind it is. My best guess is that it's a Lee-Enfield No. 4 (it has a "No 4" stamped on it), but the barrel doesn't quite match. Any help identifying it would be greatly appreciated.

Yep, you have a #4 SMLE (Short Magazine Lee-Enfield)
I don't know what you mean as far as the barrel question, as I can't see the entire barrel from your pics.
It appears to have the usual "Sporterized" Forearm on it, as , there is not much else you can do to the military forearm.
It should shoot great as is if it has a good bore, etc.
The rear sights on the #4 are, in my opinion, one of the best designs ever, especially the milled sights, which are a better quality than the stamped.
Raise the sight, and use the smaller "peep" hole. You'll learn to love how quick you can aquire a target.

Taking a closer look at this rifle, I see that it appears that The rear sight has possibly been ground off, and some other sight mounted in front of the receiver. (?) I've never even seen this type of rear sight on an Enfield rifle.
Some #4s may have been converted to a #5 jungle carbine, but I have never
really looked one of those critters over, so, sorry I'm sure you heve a #4 enfield receiver , but have no idea of what the barrel is due to the rear sight mounted on it.
Does .303 ammo chamber in it?

Bama Man: Thanks for the help with the rifle.

Yes, it takes .303 rounds. Unfortunately I don't know much about the history of the gun. I got it from a collection of rifles that used to belong to my dad.

Also, it has a V-Notch sight right now.
