This would be ok as long as no one has the same name as someone else.
But if 2 people or more have the same name and one or more has a criminal record or whatever, troubles can start. Getting those problems corrected can be a hazzle.
The SSN identifies that particular person. It says right on the SS card that it's not to be used as an I.D.
But that is not how it evolved.

Not to be a wise guy or anything, but guess where you got that SSN?
The government. They already have it!

You'd think that your PA drivers License # should be enough anyway!
The State Police could just as well maintain their "illegal" database with PA Drivers license #'s.
The reason they want SS# is so that they can cross-reference with a national database and can impress the BATF with info when called upon.
Wanting SS# was probably a prelude to a national registry as some want.Last edited by Archiver; March 29th, 2006 at 04:28 PM.

I thought the section for our SSN was listed as (optional) on purchasing forms. Am I mistaken?

What about on LTCF? It said optional on the form but the deputy told me it was required.
