Default Anyone seen the AVATAR movie yet?

Since we bailed on going to Philly today I took the girls to the movies. (Mom stayed home w/ cold)

HOLY CRAP was this a cool movie! I mean, the story line was entirely predictable but, in spite of that, the CGI animation on this movie was absolutely phenomenal!

We did the 3D version. I think I sat though 2 1/2 hours of the 2:40 movie w/ a dopey-assed "WOW" look on my face.

I've seen the future and it is good!

Yeah, it was a totally awesome movie with spectacular visuals. I went to the IMAX 3D version with the gf. As everyone already knows, the plot is nothing special, story line was predictable, but man! those characters were awesome, and the visual effects are truly first-class.

I asked my gf "when during the movie did you think to yourself 'wow, that's awesome CGI'?" She thought about it for a moment, and say "not really at all!" Yeah, the graphics were that good.

I saw it and it was visually incredible but the whole movie was pretty much a liberal stereotype of a capitalist versus the communal environment friendly socialist. It came off to me as hollywood trying to preach at me once again. But at least the battle scenes were worth it.

My basic synopsis is that it was a really cool looking sci fi version of Dances With Wolves.

Fantastic film. If you can get past the political undertones and take the movie for what it is, a 300 million dollar visually stunning blockbuster, then you will have a good time.

I liked the first Ferngully. I just don't see how special effects make up for a bad story.

Differences are what make the world go round.

I don't think I could watch this at home and enjoy it after seeing it in IMAX 3D.

Wifey and I just got back from watching this movie. It exceeded both our expectations. The CGI was amazing.

Haven't seen it. The trailer/news footage looks like computer stuff on my TV, which bothers me a bit since it makes suspension of disbelief a somewhat harder task. But that's the way they do movies nowadays so that's the way it is. I often wonder if people younger than me, that grew up with this stuff, think it looks real.

Off-topic since I haven't even seen the movie. If the story is garbage, as suggested in this thread, I won't see it just for special effects. Good special effects are of great value to support the action but I've never watched a movie simply for eye candy. Except boobies. As far as I can remember people have been raving about great special effects since the 80s (longer I am sure). If I notice how good they are then the movie is not doing it's job as far as I am concerned. Fantastic scenes are great, fantastic effects are not. I should be noticing the scene and the effects should be innocuous.

The best review I read was that it was a $300 million screensaver. I would go see it just for the 3d effects. It was visually incredible. And for those that saw it in IMAX 3D; how about that Hubble movie preview? That looks incredible.
