Re: Why do you "need" an assault rifle?
Zombies is the universal response. That's all the answer they deserve.
Why do you have an assault rifle? Zombies
Why do you have so many guns? Zombies
Why do have have so much ammo? Zombies
etc., etc.Et Tu, Brute?

Re: Why do you "need" an assault rifle?
What most people are calling assult rifles are not assult rifles. Assult rifles are fully automatic. Most people with AR's and AK's actually have a semi auto sporter version of an assult rifle. In some states (not PA) these are commonly used for hunting. When ignorant people see these semi autos they assume that they are fully automatic and freak out. My response is always i don't need one I want one and I hope i never do need one.

Because I got tired of taking dolls to the range and getting laughed at.

Re: Why do you "need" an assault rifle?
I have had two people ask me why i have an ar15 and my response to both was: "because i can, thats why" which inevitably leads to me defending my position and debating gun rights.

Re: Why do you "need" an assault rifle?
before i even begin to answer i ask them just what is an assault rifle? is it one that has been used to kill or wound alot of people? or are you calling one that is used by a punk to rob some one an assault rifle?
when they answer yes to the first question. i then ppoint out that in 3 days at gettysburg there were as many killed and wounded as in 10 years in veitnam. gettysburg was muzzleloaders and veitnam was machine guns. which was the assault rifle? after that they then either ask better questions or are so confusied that they leave it alone.

Re: Why do you "need" an assault rifle?
When I get this question I say something to the effect of "the same reason you have an iPod"
Then, when I have there attention I say, further more.... a gun can save my life in a defense situation, can your (insert needless electronic junk here)? Then I say, firing an assault rifle at the shooting range is no different then a semi automatic hunting rifle.
Then I go about my business. Because there is nothing they can logically say to trump that sentence, if they start with "all they are good for is to kill people" I realize their views aren't simply a non gun environment that can be excused,..... they are simply retarded and ignore them.

What? You need a reason?
My hope is that when I die, my wife doesn't sell my rifles for what I told her I paid for them

Re: Why do you "need" an assault rifle?
1. Because it is fun.
2 .Because it is your hobby.
3. Because you want to be skilled in just more than one type of firearm.
4. Because the more firearms you are familiar with, the more you can help someone else with their problems on that firearm.
5. Because a firearm skilled citizen is a defender of their country.

Re: Why do you "need" an assault rifle?
I generally avoid these discussions.... But then I grew up where the proper answer to "Where ya from?" was "What's it to you?"
But one answer might be "The only country the Germans never invaded during World war II was Switzerland. Why is every household in Switzerland with a male older than age 18 still required to own at least one fully automatic rifle? After all- how much trouble do they have in Switzerland?"
