It may not have changed his outcome, but it sure didn't help it.

true enough. it looks less like a robbery, and more like he was targeted. still, his guard was down (a no-no in a jewelry shop, IMO), and if he'd at least had one down the pipe, he could have returned fire faster, looked for cover, anything, instead of trying to chamber a round, three times.

We always hear "Practice, Practice, Practice and this can not happen. Your muscle memory will take over."

I for one do not want to rely on my brain and muscle memory screwing up! I always carry 1 chambered and within the past year made a switch in carry pistols.

BUG is currently not a semi and my main carry has switched from my full sized Kimber to an XD. Kimber and I shoot extremely well together BUT I decided to go with a main carry that does not have an external safety.

I do not want to think.....I only want to have to react if the worst should happen.

Not trying to start a "This VS That" thread. Just an explanation expanding on the idea of making sure as few things can go wrong IF I ever need to react in a STRESSFUL situation.

    Respectfully:

looked to me like not only did he try repeatedly to chamber a round, but that he was also effectively disarmed.

there are quite a few lessons in there.

do you think he was trying to intitially chamber a round, but when the gun went click again it was an improperly seated mag? Cause he did not TRB.

It looks like he was screwed either way. Superior numbers face to face, and he was seated and with a small barrier inbetween so he couldnt physically disable them while being offensive.

If he was chambered he could have atleast killed one of them.

Looks to me like he tried to chamber it, then some kind of failure to feed, and he tried racking the slide again.

True enough. And two things would have happened from their

    1. his buddies would have lost the will to fight at that point and fled (preferable)
    2. they'd get enraged and get him anyway.

I saw a video where the store owner pulled his weapon to defend himself from being robbed a second time, only to forget to take his safety off. He was shot. To me, that was the reason why I started carrying with one in. Like you said, I don't want to have to think, I need to react quickly and efficiently.
If guns kill people, then pencils misspell words.

You can also tell, at least it seems, that he didn't have much practice with it. When he goes to rack the slide to chamber and it hits a problem, he takes his eyes off the threat to look at the problem. That's right about when the other guy fires his shot.
