Default Do your county court facilities provide a safe way to clear checked firearms?

Title and poll options pretty much sum it up. Please post your county and the type of device provided, if any (ie - sand bucket, clearing station, etc.) Please post based on your actual experience checking a firearm, not what you saw or didn't see on a random visit to a court facility.

When I was at the Luzerne county court house in Wilke Barre earlier in the year I did not see any.

Courthouse in downtown York does provide storage and does not require clearing in the 12 -15 times I have been there this year (2009).

While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

you shouldnt really need any "device" to be able to safely unload a weapon.

Beaver County, and did not have to clear to store.

Monroe County does not require you to clear your firearm before check in.
Can remove firearm and place directly into locker.

Lackawanna County doesn't require you to clear the chamber. you just hand it over to them, and they lock it up for you.

Wayne County doesn't either, but they will take the mag out. i don't get it.

i think it's safer not to have to clear it. the less you have to handle a firearm, the safer it is.

Erie county does not require clearing. The deputies don't handle the firearms.

Monroe county is 'funny' and I was surprised the first time I checked a weapon in. Quick story:

I stand in line outside the metal detector.

When I am next I declare 'I have a weapon that needs to be checked in'

Security stops everyone and let's me walk through (with alarms blaring), fill out the paperwork, asks to see my LTCF and then escorts me to the lockers.

When I ask "does the weapon need to be cleared" they tell me to put it into the locker as is"

    I get a receipt

They then allow me to walk into the building 'proper' without going through the metal detector again and without 'wanding me'

I do my business and return and produce my receipt

They unlock the locker, I retrieve my weapon and holster it.

    That's it.

I have mentioned the 'no secondary check' several times here and it has happened to me several times .. honestly if it happens again I intend to ask to see the sheriff and show him the error in this logic.

But as to the original question, no Monroe county has no facilities to clear a weapon nor do they ask you to do so.

At the Northampton County courthouse, I put my sidearm in the locker loaded. The deputy did ask me to check it when I picked it up to make sure it had the correct amount of rounds.
