1911
Been looking at 1911's for quite a while now and wasn't sure exactly what I wanted.Been to half a dozen shops and looked at everything from a Firestorm for $425 to a Colt for $1800 but the decision was made for me when my wife and son gave me a Auto Ordnance for my birthday. It's an older one made in West Hurley New York. I know these don't get the best reviews. But it was a present from family so trading it is out of the question. From what I've read I can expect some problems. Any suggestions on a good place to get parts and what problems I should expect would be appreciated. I'm going to the range tomorrow to try it out. I'll post how it goes and if I can get the camera to work I'll post pictures.

Brownells has about a bazillion 1911 parts.
I wouldn't expect any problems until you shoot it. Things may be just fine.

CONGRATS on the new gun!!!!
Great gift!!
While I personally would not use it as a self defense gun, nor any 1911 for that matter, go to the range and have fun.
It may turn out to be reliable as all hell.
As with any gun, it's only as good as it shoots. Any make or model, this holds true.
Be safe.

Re: 1911
I am by no mean a 1911 expert but from what I can remember I heard it can have FTE problems and feeding hollowpoints. Really I would take the gun to the range and run it. No real way to know until you shoot it what problems that particular pistol may have.
Where you should secure these parts will depend on money you can spend and the issues you have as well as where you want to take the gun in the future. You can get basic parts if your going to keep it simple but a whole nother price bracket if you want things customized that need to be fitted.
Enjoy your gun, keep us informed, thank G-d for a great family that gives you not only a pistol but one from G-ds right hand man JMB.
