Default Double mails in Thunderbird...what the heck???

Well...if you saw another of my posts...I just got a new Windows 7 computer system. Am still trying to get used to a lot of changes from XP.

I have been using Thunderbird mail since it's beginning. I copied my profile from my old 'puter onto the new one. All my mail and settings work fine, except that I am getting double mail. Not just new mail, but old mail is also appearing twice.
Same subject, same sender, same time received...exact duplicates.

It seemed like if I shut down T'bird and then restart it is when the doubles appeared, but I just tried that and that does not seem to be the case now.

I tried deleting the new profile and then re-pasting my old profile info and that cleared all the double mails. But then all the doubles appeared again the next day, after I restarted T'bird.

Have never seen this before...any ideas as to just WTF is happening here?

Do you have it set to "delete from server on download"?

    Some other options.

I think mrjam2jab may be right. If your old setup left mail on the server for X number of days, it is possible that your new system is downloading everything from the server and adding it to what you restored from your previous computer.

I also use Thunderbird and ran into this problem some time ago. If that is your problem, it will resolve itself on any new mail. Its older mail that would be be duplicated.

Although it sounds like that is what is happening...My box is UNchecked for leaving mail on server. It has always been that way, but I just looked at it again to make sure...unchecked.

    1. Check your email via whatever web interface you have

    2. check email in thunderbird (email should come through)

    3. Recheck in web interface... is email you just downloaded in step 2 still in the web interface?
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.

Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.
