I'm sure I'll get chastised in response to this post (good thing Danp disabled negative repping!!!). But I just don't see "awesome" as a good reason to carry an SBR. But I sure do see more negative connotations in the general public perceptions.

Then what are your thoughts on the open carry of long guns? That's happening more and more these days.

I haven't seen anyone carrying a longarm (other then hunting rifles) yet. And, the pictures I've seen of folks carrying an AR-15 haven't been concealing them.
OC of any sort is fine with me (although I rarely OC).

It's not about being pro or anti gun, it's about freedom, period. Long gun carry will never gain back widespread acceptance if people do not practice what they preach.

Looking at carrying firearms from the general (non-carrying or non-firearms...read "soccer mom") point of view...

Folks see a man with a handgun, they may get a bit excited...but it's pretty acceptable...of course this depends on a lot of other things such as the carrier's dress, age (regrettably) and attitude.
Now, those same folks see a guy wearing a trench coat, concealing an SBR...what's the first thing pops into their head?

Now, those folks vote...and they voted for one of the most anti-rights administrations in history. Those are the folks we want to keep on our side of the pro-rights fights. Those are the folks who vote for or against politicians who promote "reasonable restrictions"

In one of my earlier responses I suggested Goggling "Trench Coat Mafia". What that brings up are those two punks that killed the students at Columbine..remember that?

So, when that "soccer mom (or dad)" see a guy with a coat covering an SBR, they don't think "awesome rifle". They think crazy fucker with an assault rifle.
And, if you don't care what they think...well, those are the folks that vote for the politicians who would vote for another AWB.

Polls have shown a steady downward trend for support of more stringent gun control. That's a trend we want to continue.
