Default Tried out my belly band last night.....

So it begins.....how to carry....what to carry. I currently have a .38 taurus snub (7 shot). It is a little bulkier than I'd like, but it's what I have to carry right now (saving for sub-compact 9mm). I just ordered a belly band and tried it out last night. Right now I am in the early stages of figuring out how I want to carry, and what kind of draw I want to use. I'm 6"1 and fairly skinny, and carrying IWB on my right hip was killing me (about 3 o'clock). I concealed fairly good when carrying up front, but I hate having a loaded gun directly over the family jewels. I found that the gun sat really good when carried cross draw in front of my left hip (maybe 10 o'clock)? I did not try carrying high (up above navel). I will see how that feels tonight. There is definitely alot to concider if one is to conceal carry safely...and competently. This forum has been awesome for gathering information and advice. I need to figure out if I like crossdraw or strong side better, and then practice like mad. Thanks for all the advice and help on here so far.

Was this with a holster, or your belly band?

It's really nothing that you need to worry about. The gun isn't going to decide to shoot you in the nuts on it's own.

This was in the belly band on my right hip. I may end up trying out a crossbreed supertuck for my 9mm in addition to the belly band once I pick it up.

I can imagine what a gun digging into you would feel like. That's happening because there's only a layer of fabric between you and the gun. I think you'll find a real holster much more comfortable. Especially something like a Supertuck or MTAC, the large, flat, leather back plate distributes any pressure nicely. Sucks that you can't wear the belly band in the same spot that you would a holster, but if it's what you gotta do, it's what you gotta do. Better than not having a gun on you.

I agree. Thanks for the advice, as you are the one who recommended the belly band. Between that and a good holster, I should have several nice carrying options.

Its all trial and error until you find a setup that works for you. All I can say is don't blow all your cash on the gun just to carry it in a cheap holster, it won't be comfortable and you will not carry as much as you should .

When I need deep, deep cover, I carry a Ruger LCP in a bellyband under my weak side arm. Tactically it isn't great, but I can carry in just about any clothing or situation. Can't beat it for invisibility.

    I don't know if it's the best, but I like Galco's version.
