Heck, even some of the newer AR lowers need to be modified to allow them to work. You'd need to mill the lower to get either of them to work with a Colt lower. I'm sure there are a few others that have a high shelf.
My lower is drop in ready. Not like I have 7,000 to throw into a rifle anyway LOL.

For an AK the parts are plentiful and cheap at about $25 for an entire FA fire control group. All you then need to do is drill a hole in the proper place for the Evil 3rd rivet and install the FCG.

And BINGO, you have a cheap Felony!

this has been on my mind as well, are there registered ak's? As in; can I buy an affordable assault rifle? Or what is the most affordable/cheapest?

I guess if you consider 14k for a full auto AK affordable, sure you can buy one.

I think a chicken will net you 2 or 3 in some places.

Depends on what you call an "assault rifle" [sic].

    • Semi-auto, quite possible. $400 and up will get you in this game. Many here own AKs, there could be a separate discussion forum just for AKs.
    • A street-legal selective fire AK? If you win the lottery, or inherit enough money that you can drop 15-20K for recreational use, maybe. Since this is an NFA forum, I assume you're considering a machinegun. Looks like machineguns are okay state-wise in Tennessee (details), although you should research your local laws first. Pennsylvania has a pre-emption statute, Tennessee might not.

The entry price in machinegunland is typically an M-11 for $3000. Accessories are extra.
