Thanks for the info guys! Cleared it all up for me.

Does anyone know if there is anyone in congress is trying to get this turned around? Aren't some states attempting to tell the fed's to stuff the NFA act by creating firearms from raw material to final product, all within the state?

Yes but all the pending legislation specifically excludes MGs.

For instance the lightning link: http://www.quarterbore.com/nfa/lightninglink.html

the actual item it a registered NFA item that can then be dropped into an AR.

What's nice about them, if you can afford them, is you can use them in more than one rifle without having to get each rifle 'registered' as an NFA item

Very interesting, But how hard are these to find and how much are they currently running for?

    Not hard to find

    Lightning link 7k

    Drop in auto sear 12.5K

    Receiver 10 - 12k

The expensive part is the fact that they were registered before the 86 ban.

All I can say is good luck. I haven't seen one for sale in over a year, they are like gold (but more expensive) ... last I saw they were in the $6k-10k range, all for a piece of metal that didn't cost 50 cents.

Pretty cool concept. But I think I will need to save a bit more first.

RDIAS and LL on sale all the time, you can buy one tonight.

If you're thinking about LL or RDIAS, because you can move them from gun to gun, consider this. RDIAS requires M16 fire control group. You must move the entire FCG (more or less) to a new gun when you put the RDIAS in it. An AR with M16 FCG parts is an illegal machinegun if the RDIAS is not in the gun. So it's a little more than just moving the sear. LL moves by itself. But many people decide they want select fire, not just auto, and then the pesky parts come into play again for the LL as well.

RDIAS shines when you are a serious M16 officianado and require select fire with brand new receivers or things such as the MGI magwell.

LL shines when you are a cheap SOB. NOTE: you won't find one for less than $6K, it must be in ATF registry. Don't get taken by "pre-68 grandfathered" etc. BS. LL is really underrated as a good way to get M16 on the cheap. But it won't work with various caliber conversions. Plus, converted RRs are only a grand or two more nowadays if you are patient.

How would this work for AK's and sig556's? I'm guessing you couldnt use the same LL or DIAS for an AR? Also, the Sig 556 wasn't even around back then right? How could one turn it up? or are sig 556 owners SOL?

Probably SOL for those. The concept is similar for HK guns, as the auto sear is the machinegun, and can be married to the firearms.

Welcome to a world of gun laws written by layers, patrolled by taxmen.

A RLL and a RDIAS will only work in an AR lower.

Heck, even some of the newer AR lowers need to be modified to allow them to work. You'd need to mill the lower to get either of them to work with a Colt lower. I'm sure there are a few others that have a high shelf.
