Default How to fix the economy

    The Fix
There recently was an article in the St. Petersburg Fl. Times. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on: "How Would You Fix the Economy?"
I think this guy nailed it!
    _____

    Dear Mr. President,

Please find below my suggestion for fixing America 's economy. Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan. You can call it the "Patriotic Retirement Plan":

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

    1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

    2) They MUST buy a new American CAR. Forty million cars ordered ˆ Auto Industry fixed.

    3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage ˆ Housing Crisis fixed.

It can't get any easier than that!!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members in Congress pay their taxes...

Mr. President, while you're at it, make Congress retire on Social Security and Medicare. I'll bet both programs would be fixed pronto!

If you think this would work, please forward to everyone you know.

    If not, please disregard.

So 40 TRILLION dollars is supposed to just appear out of thin air?

Guess 'handing out' 3.5 times the current national debt doesn't mean anything to this guy.

They seem to be throwing around billions like candy anyway, this sounds like a REAL idea.

Besides, the OP already addressed the $$$ issue:

    Owned.

    Remedial math. Just sayin'

While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Not even close to 40 trillion, not even close

You could take all the bailouts and all the taxes you want and still not come even close to that number

    just sayin

    Here is another idea...

    1. We send everyone that is in prison that is not a US citizen back to their home countries

    2. We start treating criminals like they are supposed to be treated

    3. We impose limits on HUD, WELFARE,... if you are collecting for more then 3 years its not a skill issue, its a will issue. We need to break this circle

    4. We stop wasting money on stupid wasteful crap like bridges to nowhere and worthless airports

    5. We stop sending our men and women to fight and die on foriegn soil and spending billions on it

    6. We stop financing world piece at the expense of US citizens... it never works out in our favor anyway
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.

Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

idea.....keep taxes where they are, stop all spending that is not defense and justice

for states, keep taxes same, stop all spending that is not justice and roadways

All taxes brought in get split in half, half for spending, half for paying down debt

30 years from now we can try the welfare state again if anyone isnt happy with prosperity

Really the government needs to what most of the citizens have been doing. Cut back in spending. How many Departments of X do we really need? Perfect example. Department of Energy. They were created in the '70s to get us off of foreign energy. Guess what. They FAILED. It needs shut down. If they couldn't get ANYTHING done in 30 years, they aren't going to do it. How many Billions is their budget? Stop spending money supporting the US global empire. Come on ... it's not needed.

In reality, the federal government could be cut in half. My public service a public service again and not a career choice!

Once they get that stuff under control, they need to cut taxes. Our whole tax scheme needs shredded and re-worked from the ground up.

There shouldn't be any income based tax. Talk about jump starting the economy. Just imagine if there wasn't an income tax.

Idea: government stops picking winners and losers and lets the free market (aka natural selection) figure things out.
