Whatever gun you decide on, you are going to have to take care of it if it gets dust/dirt in it.

My advice it to get whatever points naturally for you. Go to a gun store and try a lot of different guns and see which one fits you best.

Since you are going to have your hands full most of the time, ideally you would get one of those shoulder mounted plasma cannons like Predator had.

But if you can't find one of those, a hammerless revolver, Kel-Tec P9 or P11, Glock 26/27, or anything similar would do you fine. Just keep them in a good holster that covers up as much of the action as possible and it should keep the mess to a minimum.

You could also just go with belly band or pocket carry with a small frame revolver, Ruger LCP, Kahr PM9 etc. so that it is covered by your clothes.

Something like a S&W 642 would work out fine for you. I think it does come down to how you carry, as opposed to what you carry.

I used to be in the waste hauling business and as such got all types of shit all over me. I pocketed a SW 638 with a set of CT grips and it worked great for me because the little pocket pistols would choke on the dust. 5 for sure!

For your line of work, I would probably side with a revolver myself. Smith Airweight for a lighter snubbie or a SP101 for something heavier.

The single bestest carry gun is the one you are most familiar with, have practiced with repeatedly, are most intimate with, have practiced with repeatedly, and definitely have practiced with repeatedly. Should the need arise for you to have to draw your carry piece, it should be as natural and innate as whipping your dick out to take a piss.

Any gun is better than no gun when the chips are down.

Thanks for the suggestions.I work in west philly (behind the zoo) so needless to say it isn't the best enviroment!I have a S&W 910 9mm which Im very comfortable with but it's a bit bulky to carry while working so I think I'm going to go with a 38 snub revolver.Im very happy to have found this site and I appricate all the help.Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

I used to work right by there and the least I carried was my Glock 30 and a spare mag!! Yea that is a shitty neighborbood, you might consider a .357 snubbie too. People are correct that they are painful to shoot, but it isnt a range gun its for defense, and a 125gr Gold Dot even out of a short barrel is a LOT more potent than .38+p. I used to practice with .38's mostly and run just enough .357 stay comfortable with it, the thought being that if the worst happened I would never notice the noise and recoil. Personal choice for sure, but thats my 2 cents. Good luck!
