Gun owners who are "against the cause"
Here is an argument I got in with another gun owner on gaming forum that I frequent. There was a thread about what home security. I of course made a post suggesting that the OP buys a shotgun . For the life of me, I can't figure out how he can be a gun owner and have this point of view. Here is where the fun starts:
Idiot: I think you've watched way too many cop dramas bro. Not everyone is out to steal your shit or kill you in your own home. Locking up your shit without fail sure does wonders.
uniballin: You know I had one successful break-in and 3 attempted break-ins in the last week, right?
And you know that a couple months ago, masked gunmen were barging into houses, beating and tying up Temple students, and stealing all of their shit, right?
Idiot: A - Move to a less shitty area
B - Move to a less shitty area
C - Move to a less shitty area
In conclusion, quit being a masochistic idiot and get the fuck out of the ghetto.
I own a 1911, but I'm not stupid enough to live in an area where I'll likely be required to use it at some point.
uniballin: So I guess the anti-gun proponent's answer is to tell the 20,000+ students from Temple to move to a different city and to shut down the entire school.
What planet are you living on?
Idiot: Who said I was anti gun? I live in the state with some of the most liberal gun laws in the union, and proud to support those laws.
I'm not an idiot. I choose to live in a nice area where I'm not likely to run into gang bangers every night of the week.
They can leave the shitty neighborhoods any time they want. Doesnt mean they have to shut down the school.
uniballin: Then where will all the students live? Commute to class from the other side of the city?
Running away from the problem is not going to fix it.
Idiot: Uh, yeah it will. Ghettos dont follow people wherever they move. I have a friend who commutes every day 30 miles to and from school and work.
uniballin: Do you see how unrealistic is for 20,000 people to commute to school every day? I don't have a car or the money to spend on a train everyday.
The solutions are obvious. Temple needs to start slowly buying up properties in the surrounding areas, set up more security stations, more police patrols, etc.
If you live in a city, there's going to be a higher chance that you might someday be the victim of a crime. That's just reality. It basically comes down to this: 99% of people who own a gun will never have to use it in self defense. I'd rather have it when I don't need it then not have it when I do need it.
Idiot: Temple needs better security, but I wouldnt be surprised if most students were dumb enough to leave their vehicles and residences unlocked.
It's fine owning a gun, but you're a retard if you buy a gun out of necessity because you live in such a shitty area that you or your neighbors are getting burglarized every week or so. A few blocks and common sense including locking your vehicle when you exit and all your doors after dusk makes an amazing difference sometimes.
uniballin: Stop pulling stuff out of your ass. Temple students are well aware of the fact that there is heightened amount of crime in the surrounding neighborhoods. If someone wants to get into your car or house bad enough, they will find a way.
How would buying a gun because your neighbors are getting burglarized make someone a 'retard'? I think it would make them pretty damn smart. I bought a gun because I enjoy shooting them, and hey, they are also pretty awesome for self defense.Last edited by uniballin; November 25th, 2009 at 02:20 PM.

So what does one do when one moves to an up scale reallly nice neighborhood and the criminals come from somewhere else?
This defeats his moving idea.

LOL! yea tell that to folks that live in Maryland / Baltimore. (MTO) Move to opportunity. That's where the local Government moved the ghetto next door to the working middle class that worked hard to buy and make a nice home to live, and just moved in the gangbanger from the projects into houses next door for free. The middle class then had to move out of Maryland. and it goes on from there.Last edited by NightRocker; November 25th, 2009 at 09:33 AM.

Re: Gun owners who are "against the cause"
Don't take this the wrong way....but I'm thinking...not ALL but many members of a gaming forum are stupid ass kids that are too young to have learned much about life. It's normal....young people know more than 30 something or middle age people. When I was 17 I knew way more about life than I do now.
JMO....."Gunowners" who are anti or anti self defense are not really gun owners. It's likely just a ruse to add credibility to their position. If they actually have a gun....it's probably something that's been given to them & has not been fired in 20 or more years. BUT it makes them a "gunowner".

Re: Gun owners who are "against the cause"
The delusion that crime only occurs in the Ghetto. Must be nice to live so blindly to think that. Being aware of crime that makes it to the paper shows that the first opinion just isn't true. That's like believing that crimes only occur after midnight. FBI stats show time and again that violent crime happens everywhere, at all times of the day. It has no borders and certainly doesn't respect the security provided from any gated community might offer.
But trying to have an intelligent conversation with folks that are ignorant of the facts is an act in futility. Of course crime becomes less apparent when you move away from population centers. But per capita it's just as prevalent.
That's like thinking that drugs are just an intercity problem as well. Living on the top of a mountain with the nearest neighbor miles away will decrease the chances of crimes being committed but it's no guarantee. Gotta come off that mountain sometime. And it's just a matter of time before the criminal decides to check it out.Divided we ever have been, and ever must be.Two thirds always had and will have more difficulty to struggle with the one third than with all our foreign enemies. - John Adams

Re: Gun owners who are "against the cause"
To be accurate, there are variations in crime per capita that change with the region. My area, Abington Township, for example has only about 1/5th of the violent crime per capita that PA experiences on average, and around 2/5th property crime.
That does make it a nicer and safer area. But it still would be a big mistake to feel "safe" and assume that "this can never happen here" attitude. In reality those statistics tell us that these crimes definitely happen here too, just a little less often.

Give up. This idiot will never agree with you, not even a little. It's one thing to have an argument about different opinions. But you're presented valid arguments and he dismissed every one, while insulting you in the process. He's either a troll or immensely ignorant. Either way, you're wasting your time.
