    Default 1911 magazine loose

I'm not sure if this is normal or not. Perhaps the 1911 gurus can help me out. when I insert a magazine into the gun (loaded or unloaded) with the slide locked back the magazine can move up and down a little bit. I also notice that the magazine is not in the frame notch on the front of the grip. It hangs down a little bit. The gun doesn't have any malfunction issues, I'm just wondering i there is supposed to be any freeplay or if the mags should lock tight into the gun. I think I included all of the needed info but if I missed anything that can help let me know. Thanks guys.

Every 1911 I own has a bit of play in the Mags even with my Wilson 47D mags, All 1911's have some wiggle in the mag area, if it is not causing malfunctions I wouldnt worry about it. have you tried any other Mags with this pistol.

yes I have a wilson 47D, chip mccormick match grade, and a few others. they all do the same thing. The only reason I had asked is because I had heard from another guy that had the same gun and he said that there were a bunch of guns that had out of spec mag catches. I'll have to get my calipers out and measure how much play there is. I might order up a new mag catch/release and see if I can fit it so there is no wiggle in and out of the gun.

That could be, that the mag catch is out of spec, What brand 1911 is this, I have had out of spec parts on, Kimbers, Colts, Springfields and just about every other 1911 made, even my Wilson CQB Elite had a Mag catch that was milled a little to high, and I couldnt seat a mag, it just wouldnt catch the mag release, It just Proves that all things man made will have faults no matter how much they cost.

It's normal to have a slight bit of play in the magazine area. As long as it's functioning flawlessly, I wouldn't worry about it.
