NORTH PHILADELPHIA - November 21, 2009 (WPVI) -- A homeowner of a North Philadelphia rooming house shot and killed one of two men who attempted to carry out a home invasion late Friday night. Police tell Action News that two men forced their way into the home around midnight Friday night armed with guns.

They then encountered the homeowner and at least three other people inside and attempted to rob them.

During the incident, the homeowner produced his own gun and fired at the males striking one of the victims, a 20-year-old, several times.

That male collapsed outside the home and was pronounced dead by fire rescue crews.

The other gunman fled from the scene and police now searching for him.

A rooming house is what travelers used to live in before motels/hotels came along. You could be a one night or permenent resident but you rent a room, sometimes laundry and meals are part of the deal.

Germany still has them, called in english, Guest house.

Based on the fact that he lived in an apartment in old city, and that there isn't a cacophony of media crowing about how his gun didn't save him, I'm going to infer not.

Hey, the victim protected himself. He may have lived in a poor neck of town, but he sure as hell did not want to die that night.

And what do you know. He (the gun owner) is alive today!

Oh Boy, Another one ah? Anbybody noticed lately that the Bad guys seems to be getting the shitty end of the stick? Lets hope the trend continue, Glad to see the second amendment and the constitution working the way it was intended.
