Walther PPS
I just picked up my LTCF yesterday and I am considering the Walther PPS for my CCW. Does anyone have experience with this firearm? Thanks.

Good, solid, reliable. This in .380?

9mm parabellum or .40S&W.
Any mission, any conditions, any foe at any range.
Twice the mayhem, triple the force.
Ten times the action, total hardcore.

Re: Walther PPS
I'm thinking about the 9mm. One more round in the mag and I already have a Sig P250 in 9mm. I'll only have to buy one caliber for both.

Re: Walther PPS
I didn't look too closely at it but walther has come out with a new .380, don't know what they're callin' it, but I held one of 'em just yesterday. Didn't hold it long though, haha!
I'd like to have the PPS 9mm though, I think it's a good choice for cc.
Hey, on second glance, I'm not sure if it's new or not. It's a PK. Pretty big frame for a .380.Last edited by ansehnlich1; November 20th, 2009 at 09:46 PM.

Re: Walther PPS
It sure is a slim pistol like it's name implies.
The new 380 is the Pk380. A slightly larger P22 basically.Guns don't kill people, it's mostly the bullets.

Re: Walther PPS
I looked at the PK 380. It's nice, but it has a heavy trigger pull. Not something I would want to deal with in a situation where I would need to pull my firearm.

Re: Walther PPS
I carry a Walther PPS in .40 s&w and I have shot both the 9mm and .40s&w versions. I carry in a Crossbreed Supertuck holster, and very rarely in a cheap Fobus paddle holster. I have found this set up very comfortable and I carry in shorts, jeans, and khakis with a wider belt but not a "gun belt" with no trouble. Printing is very minimal and the weight is very manageable. I carry a full size 1911A1 occasionally just for fun and it is a night and day difference.
I have found the PPS to be an excellent CCW if your main concern is concealability without moving to a sub-9mm caliber. In a quality IWB holster and proper clothing it will literally almost disappear. I carry regularly wearing Khakis, t-shirt tucked in behind the holster and a button down shirt tucked in front of the holster. This configuration has worked for me for quite some time at work and formal gatherings.
The downsides to the Walther PPS are the limited capacity and small grip, but these are a given due to it's small stature. I find the small grip to be comfortable in my hands, even more so than XDs and Glocks. That is obviously a personal preference. My PPS also only holds 5+1 with the small magazine that I use for everyday carrying, but the trade off is a firearm that is less than an inch wide. The magazine release takes some getting used to, but with a little range time and practice you shouldn't have much trouble with it. Another downside that I don't have a problem with, but others (with more fragile hands) who have shot my PPS complain about, is that they say it kicks pretty hard. I have shot the 9mm version and it is a noticeable difference but I never found my Walther painful. I've gone to the range and put 200 rounds through it in one sitting without finding myself in any kind of pain. At the range I have found my Walther to be very accurate, especially considering it's small size and short barrel. It also has a "heavier" DAO trigger pull that took some getting used to. Once I got a feel for the weapon it was no longer an issue and I'm confident that in an adrenaline filled self defense situation (that I never want to be in) the heavy trigger pull would not even be close to a problem.
When I bought my Walther there were reports going around that the PPS, especially the .40 s&w versions were having some issues with FTF and FTE problems. There was a post recently here about a member's wife having a FTE issue when shooting a PPS but it was chalked up to limp wristing. I have NEVER had a FTF or FTE issue in well over 500 rounds. My PPS has literally been flawless regardless of what kind of ammo I feed it.
Overall I would recommend a PPS any day if it fits your bill. It is very accurate and reliable and while I have no trouble shooting it a lot, it is clearly designed more to be used for carry/self defense and not range time.
Just a few thoughts for you, the best way to find out if you like one is to shoot one. Also do a forum search as there are other threads about the PPS and do a Google search because there is a PPS forum floating around out there.
