    Default display guns

I wanted to get peoples opinions on this since I've recently run into varying stances among friends:

When you go to purchase a new gun, do you expect to receive one in the box which has not been displayed or would you be fine purchasing the display gun?

Do you think it is inappropriate to insist on a gun that has not been displayed?

Just wondered if there is any actual protocol in relation to this or if it just varies store to store and by what's available.

Many models, if not most or even ALL (depends on the shop) the display is the only one.

Guns are not very fragile and they are too expensive to have more than one of for many models that don't move off the shelf fast.
Every duplicate is money that could be used on another model that could be available

I never gave it much thought. But like the Patriot said, it is up to the shop. If you really wanted a gun that was not displayed you could order one. But then how would you know if that one had been displayed or not. I would assume the shop would take it out of the box to inspect it, before calling you to tell you that it arrived.

I bought my M&P pro and asked for one from the back and surprise surprise they had one. My Friend bought the one from the case that had been "Finger F*****" as he called it. He had nothing but trouble with that gun. He sent it to smith 3 times then they told him there was nothing wring with it. He then ran into a Smith rep at a sanctioned IDPA match and they decided to replace the gun for him, due to the fact that 3 or 4 people asked him how his M&P was running while he and the rep. were talking. I don't think the fact that it was a case gun caused the problem, but I do generally ask for one from the back.

Edit: My M&P is running just fine now and i remind my friend of it all the time

I don't think it matters. But I worked gun shows for about a year and I can't remember how many times someone wanted a gun that has never been on display.

You pay less for it if it's a "demo".

But a demo car has been driven, has wear and tear, and added mileage. A display gun has only been handled. Not regularly fired with ammo. Last I checked, fingers don't wear down metal.

I try to sell the guns I have in the back first. But I don't have 2 of everything.

Before I was a dealer I looked the gun over if it was fine I didn't care if it was in the case or in the back.

I will also order one for you if you don't want the case gun. Just be ready to pay at least 50% at the time of order and any up charges if there has been a price increase.
