Can't get one in NY. What does one need to be able to buy a pistol in PA? Thanks.

Re: Can out of state residents buy pistols in PA?
You can purchase one if you pass our background check, but federal law requires that it be sent to a dealer in your home state, to be sure that your home state requirements are met before releasing it to you. So if you can't get one at home, coming here really isn't going to do anything to solve your problem.

Re: Can out of state residents buy pistols in PA?
No one can just buy a pistol in NYC that I know of. I have no record if that's what you mean. I think we can keep a pistol in our home for protection. That's all I want it for.

As far as I know ANYONE can buy a pistol in NYC. You just need to go to your local police department and fill out a firearms registration card, and get authorized to buy a pistol. Then go to a gun shop once you have the completed authorization card, and you can begin the process of buying the gun.

Re: Can out of state residents buy pistols in PA?
You need to talk to a NY state FFL (Federal Firearms Licensee, aka a gun dealer) who understands what's necessary to purchase a handgun. Then, you'll need to take whatever steps are necessary. That way when you purchase a gun and have it shipped to a NY (or NYC) FFL, you'll be able to take possession of it. It's my understanding (I could be wrong here) that NYC has stricter regulations than the rest of the state, so you'll need to make sure you comply with whatever state regulations are necessary, as well as any additional regulations imposed by NYC. Otherwise the gun will sit with the FFL until you comply.
If you can find a NY or NYC FFL though, it might just be easier to buy one directly from them, depending on cost. Of course, you'll still need to comply with all necessary regulations, but it would save you a trip out of state to buy the gun."Political Correctness is just tyranny with manners"

Re: Can out of state residents buy pistols in PA?
IF you're prohibited in NY, you will NEVER buy a gun in PA.
People who are not prohibited, come here and buy guns all the time.
However, since you seem to be disregarding the advice myself and other posters have offered you, the FFL here in PA probably won't assist you if you don't have the proper documention completed from your state before you even walk inside his shop.

Re: Can out of state residents buy pistols in PA?
Absolutely, but NO ONE (unless they are a dealer themselves), from any other state can simply walk out the door with pistol after they have purchased it. It MUST be sent to a dealer in the buyer's home state to make sure the requirements in the home state are met before the person is allowed to take possession of the pistol.
Is there an echo in here?Last edited by gnbrotz; November 17th, 2009 at 04:04 PM. Reason: typo
