Why am I always hungry for pickles???

No I'm not pregnant.

Ever since my surgery last month I have been craving dill pickles on a daily basis. Luckily we've had a big jar in the fridge from May that I've been snacking on, but it's just about gone. I'm totally going to get another jar soon, but I'm just damned confused about this sudden food craving.

i saw something on TLC about that once. I can't remember what the diagnosis was. This lady was really messed up though, bad. The craving of pickles was just a side thing that was dismissed, but ended up leading to her diagnosis.

You may be on to something there - the thing about salt, not the gay part.

I'm only craving dill pickles. Bread and butter pickles are good too, but I'd sooner go for a dill pickle.

Salt or acid.... sounds like your system is lacking one, or both.

If they're almost gone, you're going to have to break out the hidden 'dill dough' and get some more.

I crave pickles and salty foods when my blood gets basic; that happens when my blood sugar is under too tight control; if I don't get the salt and acid I will get gout; if I get too acidic I can develop DKA, which is the diabetic coma maker.

Allopurinal seems to keep me on an even keel now.
