Default any high end audio people out there

Just curious. I dabble. Every time I try to upgrade I buy a gun instead.
I'm sort of low end high end. I would love some input regarding music servers.
I want to convert an old computer. If Mp3's are your deal you just don't get it.

Old computer isn't a problem - built two of em using old parts. The obstacle I ran into was making sure that the system board on the rig could handle a newer audio card. Get a cheap, low processor computer. Get a $100 sound card, with soundblaster 8gazillion or whatever the hell the higest version is right now, and plug it in through an old boom box's speakers. Bingo - redneck Media Center. $100- $150 will get you good sound plus a radio tuner, a software bundle, and jacks/slots for every type of media device out there.

Bonus - More stuff for PC based entertainemnt (not the kind with neked wimmin in it, neither): alot of the Video cards now come with a COAX in/out - so you can make a tv server/DVR/DVD burner for yourself, and all it requires is some $50 third party software to work. Then you'll never miss Dancing With The Stars again

I don't know if this counts or not, but I have 2 Pioneer speakers, a Kenwood receiver, a Pioneer tape deck, and a Harmon/Kardon equalizer from the 1970's. The stuff is big & heavy but I wouldn't trade them for anything. The sound quality is AMAZING.

    I have a decent home theater...all Sony.

It's not hooked to my computer, though...I just use the PC to download music, etc. I do have Sirius Satellite on my system, though...

I have a decent collection of music on the laptop and networked drive but I doubt that makes me high-end.

My next project is a Home Theater PC. I originally wanted to go with a MythTv project and still might but have been considering just a mac mni with a 2Tb external drive and an Elgato TV tuner for DVR. It still might be off topic because the main purpose is for movies and TV shows because I like my music loud, therefore it is usually limited to headphones.

(And for messing around with the iPod and the cheesy little earbuds MP3 is fine. Once I hook up my Sony headphones, it's go time!)

Well, I guess I WAS into high-end audio. At one time, had about 65k invested, but then life happened. Now I am deaf in one ear with tinnitu. Listening to music is a nightmare.

Regardless what you have, if you love music, enjoy it while you can and protect your hearing at all costs.

    Quoted for truth!

I'm all about good sound quality...I hate "loud" music, but I like it to be clear and undistorted with definable low, mid and high ranges.
