Has economy affected you?
I have been missing hours to total layoff over last 5 months. Has the economy affected any else here?

Re: Has economy affected you?
Yup. It's making it a bitch to find another job. I'm on my way out on my current one and need something ASAP.

Re: Has economy affected you?
My 'day' job is much busier, enrollments are way up.
My consulting gig, on the other hand, is suffering a bit. This time two years ago, I was doing 70 to 90 shops a month for just one company, which kept me supplied with soda, oil, and full gas tanks, plus the maintenance on my cars (actually, I control my profit carefully, the intent of the job is to maintain the cars without zapping my painfully inadequate resources or affecting the little guy's secondary benefits); this year, I'm lucky to do 15 or 20 spread out over the month, and spread out over several companies.
I may have to start doing the crappy fast food and cell phone shops again...but the downside is that there are scads of newcomers who snap them up at puny pay.
I love doing Post Offices, but I'm limited to 4 a day/ 20 a week and the shipping rates have gone up so far that I tie up way too much money between the inspection and the payment for the contract. I also hate being unarmed, especially in the neighborhoods where some of the post offices are, but rules are rules, and I KNOW I'm on videotape. The economy hasn't chased them away.
The one company (gas stations and convenience stores) used to love for me to check the locations out overnight; the veep in charge of the contracts said that since I was working for ME and not a company employee, that I might think about 'carrying something BIG and getting good training with it'...he said the money was good, but dead was no way to spend it..."...a REPUBLIC, if you can keep it."

Re: Has economy affected you?
was out of work a month before I found my current job in April, but other than that I'm just spending less.
I do hope everyone finds some sort of job in this tough economy even if it means working a shit job because lets face it; making money is better than sitting at home letting bills pile up and not being paid period.Peace, Prosperity, and Liberty

Well I'll say with the % I put in 401 and costs of benefits taken out my take home wasnt far from what unemployment is giving, the wife getting her first job in years, so I'm making it. Giving serious thought to going back to college. Will wait for that decision until after election next week!!!!!

Re: Has economy affected you?
Sadly, yes. I'm finding it next to impossible to locate another job within my field, and openings for more mundane ones also appear to be scarce.
