Anyone have any experience with an M1 carbine?
I have a Plainfield M1 carbine. I bought two different kinds of rounds for it. One type is the FMJ's, the other are hollow points. I have noticed that the hollow points will not feed using either 15 or 30 rounds magazines. It appears the soft nose on the hollows sticks against the feeding ramp. Anyone else ever have that problem?

Howdy phil, and welcome to the forum.
M-1 carbines are notorius for not feeding anything but FMJ.
I have a Plainfield and a surplus.
NYPD used them years ago, but they had smiths work on them to feed soft points.
A trip to a smith who knows them is in order if you need it to feed them. If not, stick with FMJ ammo.

Kind of the luck of the draw. All mine feed anything at all except one Inland, which won't feed anything but FMJ. Lightly polishing the feedramp may help.

I was wondering if I was the only one with that problem. Hope I can get it to take hollowpoints. I use it as a house gun. It has to be my favorite of all my firearms. Love my little Carbine.

Re: Anyone have any experience with an M1 carbine?
Enjoyed my Inland when I grabbed one at Woolsworth's in the 80's. Fun but too expensive to plink with, so I dumped it. Maybe somedI'll grab another if the price were right.
Given that all military rifles were really meant just for FMJ, work it slowly and carefully. Try these:
Kawasaki #840868 "Rubber Polishing Point set".
You get 3 medium grade and 3 coarse grade "rubber ink eraser" type bits. The shafts are a bit skinnier than normal Demel shafts, but they work great to polish metal, and by their own construction can not remove too much metal as they wear out too fast if used too aggressively.
I polished the "chamber face" and "edge" of my WASR22 with these bits, and the rifle will now scarf down RNLs and HP ammo like a dog on fried bacon.

Re: Anyone have any experience with an M1 carbine?
There are soft points (not hollow points) for the 30 carbine that feed just like the FMJ's. They were $50 a box of 50 (loaded) last year at Gander Mountain. I found a commercial loader in WVa that loaded them and sold them (for around $20 for 50) at the Washington County (PA) gun show.
I heard the stories of the 30 carbine bouncing off frozen uniforms in Korea so I did a test with 9 inches of phone books. I set up a stack of phone books 9 inches thick out at 30 yards and shot my handloaded 30 carbine FMJ's and the commercial soft points at them. The FMJ's almost went through all 9 inches of phone book. The Soft Points went through 7 inches but made a larger hole (about the size of a mans thumb). For me that will do for home defense and the wife likes to shoot the M1 Carbine.
Mine is a CMP National Postal Meter with a Buffalo Arms barrel.

The ones I have, that were not feeding, are soft hollow points. Winchesters I believe.
I have a Dremel tool. What should I use to polish the feed ramp with?

My carbine won't eat Wolf ammunition.
A Republic, if you can keep it.
