moving and NFA
Couple questions.
I'm moving shortly, not far though. My understanding is that I need to notify the NFA branch of my address change in writing.
Will a simple letter suffice?
Also, I was thinking about picking up a spare 10.5" upper for my SBR. It is currently registered as a 14.5" SBR. Should I ask to have the additional description of 10.5" barrel length added in?
I figure if I'm sending them an address change, perhaps I can add the spare upper description in as well.

You do not have to add the barrel length, at least provided you keep the 14.5" barrel.
But if you have non-Title II ARs laying around in addition to your SBR, be aware of any potential pitfalls.

keeping the 14.5.
I do have other non-title II ARs but all of them are built up and have corresponding upper receivers.
Maybe I just pay the $200 and register one to be safe or find a cheap lower and register it as a pistol to park it on? A lot cheaper than legal fees.

Re: moving and NFA
Are you moving within the state? If so you don't have to notify them only the out of state moves and you use the 5320.20 form and check off permanent move.
Keep in mind if they need you they will find you! LOL

Watch the pistol thing. You have to use a lower that was sold as a stripped lower and it could never have had a stock on it. Also, don't see why you would have to "register" it as a lower.
I was always under the understanding that you can take a stripped lower, put a tube on that can't accept a stock, slap a short upper on it, and have a nice pistol.
