30-06 ammo for hunting
Any suggestions on a good out of the box ammo for my 30-06 for deer hunting. I currently have a federal 180gr power shok. I shoots alright, I just have'nt shot anything with it. I was just curious on what everyone recommended.

I've always used 150gr PSP, either out of the box or reloaded. The downside is, it is not really a good choice for heavy brush, but I've always hunted in big woods and can find an open lane. It has always been effective.

Re: 30-06 ammo for hunting
I like the Powershock ammo. In my .308 and my 30-30 I found that to be the most consistant. My 30-06 likes 180gr Core Lock.
If your rifle shoots that load well, IMHO that's what you should use. When you are called a racist, it just means you won an argument with an Obama supporter.

What does your hunting location look like, thick young woods, open mature woods, open fields? Different loads would work best in each area.

Re: 30-06 ammo for hunting
I have always used 180 gr federal power shock (until I started reloading my own). The accuracy is OK, but then again, I've never taken a deer in PA past 100 yards. It definitely gets the job done once it hits the deer.

Re: 30-06 ammo for hunting
For deer, I typically use 180 grain core-lokts. (Most of my shots are less than 150 yards and the deer I've shot drop on the spot or shortly after.) My reloads shot better than factory, but the factory ammo had more than sufficient accuracy in all four of my 30-06's.

pretty much anything in the 150-200 grain area will kill deer real good. you would be hard pressed to find anything on the shelf that does not kill deer good. the only exception would be fmj's, though they are not the most common item on the shelf.
it's only metal, we can out think it....
