Default Shipping a long gun to Kalifornia

What's the word on sending a shotgun to someone in Cali? I'm looking to gift a shotgun, I know there is an approved list but other than that is it just as simple as sending to any other state?

    Go to
    http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/index.php

it's a site like this one only it pertains to CA. Maybe someone on that site could answer your question or they might even have it there on a sticky.

You have to ship it to a legal FFL like anywhere else. He will take care of the recipients transfer and what ever nonsense they have in their side. I’ve sold and shipped a number of firearms to California.

^^^^Correct^^^^^ Because it is an interstate transfer (doesn't matter if it's a gift or someone is buying it from you) it must go through a CA FFL for the transfer. You need to have your gift recipient find a FFL who will do the transfer and then make sure it is on the CA approved list of firearms. It would also help if the CA FFL will accept it from a Non-FFL otherwise you will need to find a local FFL to ship it for you.
