    Default Computer Virus help

Okay guys, my stupid PC had "cyber security" forced on it. I have no idea how it got there. Turned on the PC yesterday and it came up and told me i had a boat load of virus's and needed to register the software and pay a fee. Of course i did not do this.

Now i keep getting pop ups telling me to upgrade to cyber security every 10 min or so. I go to uninstall it and it tells me it can't be uninstalled. Search tells me to delete certain files but i don't trust that - next thing you know my pc will be toast.

So, how the hell do i get rid of it and all the files attached to it that have wormed their way on to my PC.

I can't even get my security software (trend micro pc-cillin) to find it and remove it and when i try to go to the trend web site "cyber security" blocks the site telling me of a virus on the site. Pretty good on their part - if i don't say so myself.

So help a guy out - if you can.

    Thanks

Is this source reliable? I've seen a few more places too. I hate down loading shit from the internet. I'm not too computer savvy so i try not to download shit unknown to me.

First, turn off the Windows System Restore.

Next, download and install MalwareBytes. Let it update itself and then run a quick scan. Whatever it finds, select to remove all and reboot when it's done.

That should resolve your problem if it isn't too tenacious. If you're still dealing with the issue afterwards, post back or PM me.

How close are you to Lansdale? If you want to bring the box by some time I can clean all that crap out of it for you.

    Begin PSA:

There are 4 utilities everyone should have:

Avast AntiVirus - MalwareBytes - CCleaner - HijackThis

The combination of the first two are really good at getting all of the malicious BHOs out (Browser Helper Objects)... most AV programs leave these behind and you just get infected again. HijackThis is good at locating things like host file hijacks that will similarly cause you to simply get re-infected.

CCleaner is good at clearing out junk you don't need like temp files, and for repairing registry problems like hidden and obsolete keys and other junk that will affect the system.

    All of these are free.
