Default Man surrenders after pulling gun on police officers

    http://www.thetimes-tribune.com/news...olice_officers

DALTON - A Dalton man was taken for a mental health evaluation Wednesday after he pulled what turned out to be a starter pistol on police officers along Routes 6 and 11, police said.

The man, described as an emotionally disturbed individual in his 30s, eventually surrendered, borough Police Chief Christopher Tolson said.

    There were no injuries.

The tense drama unfolded about 8:20 a.m. on Routes 6 and 11 near Dalton Convenience after police received a report of a suspicious man in the area.

According to Chief Tolson, the man had been involved in an incident Monday night in which he led an officer on a brief chase in a stolen car, and he suspected it might be the same individual.

Chief Tolson said when he arrived, he called out the man's name, and the man emerged from a wooded area.

As he and South Abington Twp. Officer Chris Michaels approached the suspect, the man drew a revolver, and the officers drew their weapons, the chief said.

The officers talked to the man into putting his weapon down, and he was taken into custody and transported to Community Medical Center for evaluation, Chief Tolson said.

Police later discovered the man's weapon was a starter pistol.

"It looked like a real revolver," the chief said.

Traffic along the highway was stopped in both directions during the standoff.

Now that is "Gun Control", noone shot and they could have easily been justified, unlike the Homeowner with 6 holes in him.

    Agreed.
This man could be dead as a result of pulling out what appeared to be a handgun, and I would have to say the officers would have been within their rights to open fire.
