PA long weekend w/ kids recommendation?
I was wondering if anybody has any secret spots they like to get away to for a long weekend this time of year? We have been all over the country/world but have been realizing lately that we haven't seen much of the state we live in! We are about 10 miles west of Philly. I have two young kids, ages 2 and 1 and I'm sure most people say this, but they really are good kids. We take them out all the time, so thats no a huge issue at all. I'd like to go for 3-5 days this fall, hopefully somewhere "away from it all" and beautiful. We are a low-key family, happy to explore a small town and shop a little, do some lake fishing, hike a bit. If anybody has any good spots I'd love to hear about them. Thanks!

What about the Poconos?
I am sure it is beautiful in the fall! I found Top 10 Reasons to Visit During Fall 2009 It looks like the next two weekends they have "Fall Foliage Weekends". They also have tours which I am sure will be beautiful this time of year.
There is also Bushkill Falls which has trails and awesome waterfalls. I have never went in the fall but have been a few times in the summer and it is really nice.
There is also Lancaster County which wouldn't be as far. They have the Strasburg Railroad and Dutch Wonderland is having Happy Hauntings the next few weekends. I know my nephew started to love little rides around the age of 1 so I am sure your kids would have a ball.
Hope that helps some!

Have you been to Jim Thorpe?
About 2hrs north of Philly. Quaint little town with plenty of Bend & Breakfasts. Mom & Pop shops to visit.
Fall offers some great scenery with the leaves turning on the mountains.
For the little ones, take the train ride! What little kid doesn't enjoy trains?

I'll recommend Wellsboro/PA Grand Canyon if you can do it SOON. I was just up that way Saturday, and the leaves are beautiful right now. Another week or two and they'll likely be gone.

These are all great suggestions, rep. coming to all!! I totally forgot about the many train rides in PA. My 2 year old boy is in love with trains, that would be the greatest! Bed and Breakfast places sound great, and the Fall Foliage Festivals look really nice too. I'm going to start looking into what I have so far!

Yep, just 3 miles north of downtown. http://www.tiogacentral.com/ There are trains scheduled still this month, and a few in November, and the first weekend of December.
