Default The New 30 AR Remington round

I may be a little behind on this stuff but I just came across this today. Has anyone else seen or heard of this new round? Perfect for the AR-15 shooter that wants to hunt with their AR-15 or just wants more power. heres the link for it http://www.remington.com/products/am...mington_ar.asp DPMS makes the new uppers and mags for this rifle.

I'm probably just overly suspicious, but it looks like they re-worked the 7.62x39 Russian round to boost the sales of their over-priced ARs.

Just get a 7.62x39 Upper for an AR and spring for some good Prvi or Lapua hunting ammo.

Yeah, IIRC, we talked about this over at The Reload Bench earlier this year.

It is the solution to a problem that has already been solved - 7.62x39.

    Compare the dimensions:

Looking at the charts, it just looks like a downloaded 6.8SPC.

    30 Rem AR has 125gr at 2200 fps. = ~1400 ft/lbs
    6.8 SPC has 115gr at 2600 fps. = ~1700 ft/lbs

I don't see why anyone would want to commit to a whole new set of barrels and mags, when you could do the same thing with 6.8SPC in a lighter load.

There's a part of me that wants the PA Game Commission to get with the 21st century. I'd love to hunt with my FAL.

Then I get in the woods on the opening day of deer season and hear

    blam, blam, blam, blam, blam

    a brief pause

blam, blam, blam, blam, blam, blam

    another brief pause

    blam, blam, blam, blam

as the deer ran across the side of the mountain from left to right --- and I know exactly where the deer is --- alive and well on the side of the mountain to my right --- time to start humping it up the mountain :-)

Wink Re: The New 30 AR Remington round

Bet it turns out to be as popular as the 300 Remington Short Action Ultra Magnum i saw an AR10 chambered for, they do go out of their way to try and "improve" existing rounds...

I'd like to see semi's permitted with one caveat, your only allowed to have one round in the rifle at any time! I think that would be a good compromise to help keep the blam -blam -blam from happening and yet allow us AR, Garand, and XXXX owners to hunt with our rifles.

It would be 100% legal to hunt with my FAL IF:
    1. I remove the piston.
    - and -
    2. I have a special gas plug that has no gas vent, so even if I did install the piston, the rifle still would not cycle.

I would have to manually cycle the action after every shot. Of course, if I get some ass hat FUDD with a vendetta who is hell bent against "black guns", I'm toast. He would have no idea about how the gun functions, and he wouldn't give any fraction of a rat's ass if I tried to educate him either.

    That would be my luck.

But back to the OP - a solution looking for a problem.
