I obviously joined much later then this tragic accident, but make no mistake I did hear about it. From what I gather, she was a strong, well-spoken, intelligent, great mother and great friend. She was also a wonderful activist for everything we are trying to accomplish. It's a real shame her life ended in that way, but it's obvious to me that her spirit and memory will not die! May God (whichever or whoever, I don't want to offend or get flamed) have mercy on her soul and bless the three children she left behind. I hope, one day they understand enough to be strong and be there for one another. Hope all is well with them and may God (see above ()) bless the family and friends helping to raise them children into respectable, responsible, successful, loving adults and keep them safe in life's journey!

That said, I usually don't show a religious side most of the time, but sometimes it feels good just to give some blessings out...she seems missed and is hopefully resting peacefully looking down upon her friends...

I never did hear, how did the lawsuit against the sheriff play out? Last I heard it was going forward in the name of her estate.
It's possible the case was abandoned but it's going to take someone getting on PACER to check the docket and confirm. See:

While I would understand, it would be a real shame if it were abandoned. Think it was a solid case and good for her memory as well as for her children.

Grape, IIRC, the case was dropped/dismissed by the court and the plaintiff's estate lacked the resources to pursue legal recourse on the dismissal.

I think the concern was that the estate be saved for the children as much as possible.

While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Appreciate the update. Was afraid that was the case. So the sheriff and (retired?) judge who made the complaint and applied his "influence" didn't even get their hands slapped.

Meleanie left her mark, indelibly so, on many. We need more like her.

This is such a tragedy. My heart goes out to the family and children. I will be praying for the family as well as the children. This is so sad.

You are aware that this happened two years ago, right?

This is something that has been etched into the minds of so many here - we still remember like it was yesterday and vow to remember always both the good that Meleanie represented and the senseless tragedy that occurred.
