Headed to SC for vacation...
And I'm going to fill naked w/o my carry weapon. How many of you guys (gals) feel naked w/o their piece?
Question: can I transport my handgun with me and keep it locked up in the condo while in South Carolina? It would remain in the condo until I leave. Most states have recip with PA for the trip down. All except Maryland I think.Last edited by JrFreak; October 5th, 2009 at 07:06 PM.

Re: Headed to SC for vacation...
If I'm not mistaken I believe you can have your gun in the glovebox in your car in SC w/o a permit, and even have it in your domicile (hotel room) while you are there. OC is not allowed, nor is CC in public without a permit. I think you would be ok transporting it from your car to your room if I am not mistaken. You should be ok provided its in your glovebox on the road and stays in your room otherwise... but then again IANAL.

Re: Headed to SC for vacation...
Doesn't the flyer say that interstate transport is OK as long as it's legal to carry in your home state AND the destination state? Maybe I'm wrong, or maybe it doesn't apply in this case.
I'm sure someone who knows will be along to clarify."It's hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong."

South Carolina is not a traditional open carry state. You may not even open carry with a SC permit. However, you may carry a loaded firearm in the glove box or console of your vehicle while traveling and to and from your accomodations.
http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/southcarolina.pdf
SECTION 16-23-20. Unlawful carrying of handgun; exceptions.
It is unlawful for anyone to carry about the person any handgun, whether concealed or not, except as follows,
unless otherwise specifically prohibited by law:
(9) a person in a vehicle if the handgun is secured in a closed glove compartment, closed console, closed
trunk, or in a closed container secured by an integral fastener and transported in the luggage compartment of
the vehicle; however, this item is not violated if the glove compartment, console, or trunk is opened in the
presence of a law enforcement officer for the sole purpose of retrieving a driver’s license, registration, or
proof of insurance;Last edited by Pro2A; October 5th, 2009 at 08:31 PM.

If God didn't intend us to have guns why would he have given us a trigger finger?

I'm going down to Ft. Jackson in Feb. to visit my sister and BIL. I'm staying on base at their house so I can't even take one with me.

Re: Headed to SC for vacation...
I know I cannot carry a firearm in SC if I am LTCF in PA. My question is can I transport one in my vehicle and then keep it in my place of residence while I am on vacation? The only time it will be outside of the condo is when I'm traveling to and from SC, and then it would be locked in a gun case.
We have a long drive ahead of us (10-12 hours) and will be taking numerous stops along the way, possibly to sleep. Every state but SC and Maryland have recip with PA so no issues with those states. I want to be able to protect my family if we are at a rest stop somewhere in VA or NC. I believe I can transport a firearm though Maryland if I have it stored properly, but what I need to know is can I have it in SC (not carried concealed or open) where I will only be taking it from my car into the condo where it will remain until I leave to go back home.

I've got a friend who is a federal Marshall there, I'll forward the question to him.
Maybe there is someone in his office that actually know the laws there.
